How was your weekend? Busy prepping for the holidays ahead? It's been awhile since I've posted anything "leisurely" on the blog but I thought it would be nice to shake it up. I have lived in New York City for 7 years and I am still exploring and discovering new places often. The Cloisters have been on my todo list for a long, long time. The only reason I havent been is because I rarely find myself that far uptown, in fact ever... I thought the 100's were high, but the 200's!? I headed up to Inwood for a shoot and I thought what a better time then to stop by! I rarely have my camera on me, so luckily this time I did. It's nice feeling like a tourist sometimes.
Fort Tyron park is hilly and beautiful, its steep winding pathways made of cobblestone are unlike most of the city which appears rather flat. The Cloisters are perched atop that hill overlooking Washington Heights on one side and the Hudson river on the other. It was built in the 1930's to resemble a European medieval abbey. Inside exhibits a large collection of medieval art, gardens and five French cloistered abbeys. I highly suggest visiting if you havent been. beautiful place- I've always enjoyed day trips like these. I'm glad you were able to mark this site off your list, it is always a nice feeling to visit somewhere that has been on the back of your mind for sometime.

Wow, very nice! I looked first at the photos on flickr and then read the explanation here. My first thoughts were: are you in Europe at the moment? :D That's really looking old but built only in the 1930s. Nicely done!
